Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge The Assabet River Refuge is full of wildlife. Here a North American Beaver (Castor canadensis) is swimming in the marsh by the north footbridge. Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge Formerly part of Fort Devens, the refuge is a haven for a variety of wildlife species, with a special emphasis on migratory waterfowl and grass/shrub land dependent birds.
