Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge The Assabet River Refuge is full of wildlife. Here a North American Beaver (Castor canadensis) is swimming in the marsh by the north footbridge. Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge Formerly part of Fort Devens, the refuge is a haven for a variety of wildlife species, with a special emphasis on migratory waterfowl and grass/shrub land dependent birds. Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge Stretching along 12 miles of the Concord and Sudbury Rivers the rich river floodplain provides nesting, resting, and feeding habitat for wildlife, with special emphasis on migratory birds.
